The database design methodology used by a major US. commercial bank is described. The methodology is used for designing databases that support a large integrated real-time application. The methodology consists of four phases: • Conceptual Design • Detailed Conceptual Design • Logical Design • Physical Design Each design phase corresponds to a particular phase of the standard project life cycle used at the organization. For each database tlesign phase, data collection and analysis, required documentation, and review procedures are described.
