Feature modeling is an important technique to capture commonalities and variabilities in a software product line (SPL). However, this kind of models shows a specific perspective, which is not sufficient to express all the characteristics and constraints of an SPL. Using a goal-oriented approach, such as i*, to complement (and help define) feature models would improve such models enhancing meaning and justification to features. Goal-oriented modelling provides a way to identify variabilities at an early phase of requirements, allowing alternative options to satisfy stakeholder’s goals.
