System integration has been the goal for both academicians and practitioners for more than two decades. Tremendous efforts have been made toward the achievement of a unifying theory or at least a framework in system integration. Unfortunately, the 140al has not been achieved because of the dynamic nature of the subject. The purpose of this paper is to conduct a systematic analysis ofthe related subjects in system integration and to develop a framework which can be used to guide researchers and practitioners in system integration development. Traditional data modelling techniques and knowledge representation methodologies will be reviewed first.
