One of the most important functions of IT is to faithfully represent an application domain. A general ontology has been used widely as a foundation for research on representational issues, with the ontology of Mario Bunge being established as a major theoretical foundation. The works of Bunge are most familiar through Bunge-WandWeber`s ontology. However, recently, a new ontology has been proposed– Bunge`s Systemist Ontology (BSO) – Bunge’s more recent and extensive set of beliefs. In this paper we contribute to the development of BSO by identifying the core of BSO and proposing several fruitful expansions. We hope BSO will serve as an important foundation for future research and development of IT.
