This paper presents an integrated Four Tools approach to providing an ER-based Information Retrieval Interface for mixed database environments, including relational, text, and picture databases. The Four Tools supports several types of interaction, formalised querying, exploratory ad-hoc browsing, schema navigation, and entity inspection. A combination of ER-models and hypermedia is applied in order to support exploratory searches following hyperlinks, yet maintaining orientation in the information space using the ER-model.
