User resistance to IT implementation has been an important and enduring issue, from the early days of computer use for managerial purposes to the implementation of digital technology. In this study we use simulation to explore the dynamic effects of implementers’ responses to user resistance. We propose a typology of nine archetypical profiles of implementers’ responses. We develop and test, with simulation, a proposition whereby the closer the profile of a series of responses is to the profile of a given archetype, the closer the outcome of this series of responses will be to that of the archetype.
