In this paper, we critically survey the existing literature in ontology-driven conceptual modeling in order to identify the kind of research that has been performed over the years and establish its current state of the art by describing the use and the application of ontologies in mapping phenomena to models. We are interested if there exist any connections between representing kinds of phenomena with certain ontologies and conceptual modeling languages. To understand and identify any gaps and research opportunities, our literature study is conducted in the form of a systematic mapping review, which aims at structuring and classifying the area that is being investigated. Our results indicate that there are several research gaps that should be addressed, which we translated into several future research opportunities.Read the full paper here: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-319-46397-1_7
