The federation of heterogeneous data management systems is still a challenge for the database system research. A main topic in federated system environments is the global identification of objects. On the federation level, a framework for object identification is needed that meets the demand for global uniqueness and allows to access the objects in the local systems. Furthermore, we suggest an identification module in this paper which satisfies these requirements and supports the handling of proxy-objects representing the same real-world entity as well as restructuring objects during the federation process. After describing this module we shall examine some aspects of implementation.
