Agile development methods are typically silent about specific practices to achieve domain understanding, such as conceptual modeling. However, both theoretical considerations and anecdotal evidence suggest that practitioners use models to understand and communicate about the domain and requirements. This paper describes two studies to investigate the role that conceptual modeling does and could play in agile development: An ongoing online survey of practitioners, and a proposed exploratory experiment to investigate the usability and usefulness of conceptual modeling in agile development.
