While process modeling can provide several benefits, it comes with associated drawbacks and impediments. Prior research suggests that process modeling methodologies are too generic and require customization to fit within organizational and project context. However, there is a lack of understanding regarding why process modeling customization is undertaken as well as how customization helps address process modeling impediments. To better understand the consequences of process modeling impediments, we are conducting a case study at a large healthcare carrier.
