End user resistance to information systems is a common occurrence that undermines the benefits sought by organizations. Literature on resistance has examined both antecedents and outcomes of user resistance as well as different types of resistance from aggressive resistance to passive resistance. Theories and strategies to deal with resistance have been advanced. This paper provides a literature review of the work on user resistance to date. Most work has examined different types of users’ resistance at the time of implementation of new systems. The purpose of the paper was to provide summary of all work and to provide future research directions in analyzing types of resistance and strategies to mitigate resistance during all stages of the systems life cycle.
