History of SIGSAND

In March 2002 and April 2003, researchers in the area of Systems Analysis and Design (SA&D) met in Miami to discuss the state of research in this area. Attendees formed the consensus that SA&D lies in the ‘core’ of the Information Systems (IS) discipline, and as a consequence, research examining aspects of SA&D should be an integral part of IS research. A proposal for an AIS SIG on Systems Analysis and Design was developed and approved by the AIS Council in December 2003.

The inaugural event of SIGSAND was held in June 2004 at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada, followed by the fourth symposium held in April 2005 at the University of Cincinnati. The fifth symposium was jointly hosted by the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University in May 2006; the sixth by the University of Tulsa in 2007; followed by the seventh (2008) and eighth (2009) hosted by Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. In 2010, it returned to Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. For full list, click here.

Fast forward to 2019, SIGSAND finally decided to create its own website – the website you are on right now.
